This week’s Short Shot is from Indian filmmaker Ritesh Batra, who recently finished his first full-lenght film The Lunchbox. During the International Critics Week at Cannes film festival, he won the Audience Choice Award for his debut-feature.
Our Short Shot of this week is about an young and modern Egyptian couple who meet each other in a café in Caïro. They have an open and honest conversation in public about their relationship. The film was shot on a random day at a real café in Caïro, the couple having a discussion, is talking about their own situation. All other customers around are actually customers of the café.
A funny and realistic fiction film, which tells the story of many young couples who live modern Caïro and have to struggle with old taboos and regulations, while in general the relationships between men and women keep shifting.
