Here’s a little throwback to one of our sold out GS X programs for those who had to miss it.

Back in 2015 our fluffy friends took over the big screen for the first time at Go Short. The Cat Shorts program was a favorite among the audience and media. In celebration of five years Cat Video Festival Vienna and ten years Go Short, we thought we would bring back our lovely friends! Cats Just Wanna Have Fun! is a program of the Vienna Shorts Agency in collaboration with Catvideofest. Curated by Marija Milovanovic and Will Braden. Once again, this program was completely sold out this year. For those who unfortunately had to miss it or for the ones who can’t get enough, here’s one of the films!

Natural Thing is a music video for the track ‘Natural Thing’ by ‘Nobody Beats The Drum’. This video is made by the Dutch visual artist Johan Rijpma who is no stranger to our festival. In 2011 Johan graduated from the HKU – Utrecht School of Arts with his film Tape Generations. In the following year, this film was part of our Online Competition, and from then on multilple films has been screened at our festival over the past years. Also back at our 7th edition in 2015, Johan was invited to make the festival trailer and his film Descent was part of our Dutch Competition. In 2017 Extrapolate was part of our European Competition. This year we asked Johan to be our special guest at Stukafest Nijmegen and to talk about his work. One of the things we have learned from his stories is that all the work took a lot of patience including some huge setbacks. But it has definitely paid off since his work has received multiple awards and is internationally screened and exhibited.

In this video many cat’s and other animals are chasing a laser projection that moves in programmed patterns that are based on the electronic music of the track. This creates a chaotic and fast paced choreography in which the laser projection creates a link between the animal instinct and the electronic music.
